THE SHIFT — Introduction

The Shift

I am using the L for a number of reasons but primarily to demonstrate the sharp change in direction that is upon us. Individuals, communities, countries, the planet are at various stages in approaching the Turning Point before we head in an altogether new direction.  As you click through to the Overview, I will explain this in more detail and as the page titled Turning Point suggests, I'll be honing in on what takes place as we move from 'before' into 'after'.

The Shift - the current state of transition - be it personal, global or universal - like everything else, adheres to the laws of nature. Despite what many groups, organisations and blockbuster movies would have us believe, there is no need to fear or panic; there is instead a need to understand.

One of the simplest processes seen throughout the natural world can help us interpret what is happening. Think of curling up in bed in for a good night’s sleep and the following morning waking up with a large stretch. Consider the disappearance and reappearance of the moon and its relationship to the tides…flower petals pulled in at night and spread broad during the day...a butterfly’s wings coming together and spreading apart, coming together and spreading apart...and the near 25,000 times your lungs contract and expand, contract and expand, every day.

Contraction and expansion, a process without which we would cease to exist.

These examples also demonstrate the importance of cycles; a day, a month, a breath - and that there are cycles within cycles.

The best way to explain The Shift is to say that we have for sometime been approaching the end of one cycle and we are transitioning into another. We have been in a state of increasing contraction and we are transitioning into a state of early expansion.

As we pass from a one breath to the next, a day to the next, a month…year… to the next, one thing for certain is that what is left behind is completely left behind. You never repeat a breath and you will never have any day, month or year again. The passing of time is exactly that; passed and past.

Similarly, with this gargantuan Shift (theories/sciences vary on exactly how many years are contained in the cycle that is shifting. I would say it’s since consciousness as we know it and that’s, ooh...quite a few years…!), what has passed and which no longer supports our evolution will never be again. Just like a breath, it will pass away.

The transition is of massive proportions spanning a period that many may find hard to fathom and still the process remains very similar to a breath - the waste is discharged so that there can be a fresh beginning, flooding the system with New. It is simple, the Old is exchanged for the New.

This ‘ending’ did not start this year or even this decade. It has noticeably (if you look) been accelerating over the past 200 years. Most precise would be to say it has been happening since the gargantuan cycle began. It’s all perspective. ‘Going to bed tonight’ was a minute part of my thinking when I awoke this morning, folded my pyjamas and tidied my bed. As I stretched into a new expansion this morning, every step I took from my bed was taking me back to tonight’s contraction. There we have a cycle.

We have always been heading to where we are, and we are always heading to where we are going. The fear-mongering is completely unnecessary and is only part of the contraction. Fear is a major way in which the contraction manifests for humans. Look around, you can see it everywhere. Rather than fear, it is understanding that we need, even if it means expanding - more like breaking apart - some very narrow old thinking to allow for new ideas.

What feels uncomfortable (this will be discussed in greater detail in the subsequent pages), is that the contraction has been getting more intense in recent years and there doesn't appear to be many answers available - which help, at least.

You could consider now to be the ‘getting in to my pajamas and pulling back the blanket’ period if you like. This stage is not about doom and gloom or hell and damnation, although because of how our news is sensationally packaged this can be hard to believe. Certainly there is an immense sense of destruction taking place: governments falling, people starving, massacres, redundancies, bankruptcies, divorces, ill health, etc…and this is the result of the old thinking on the planet.

But only in part. Much of this destruction is the beginning of the New. New and evolved thinking! New thought has been sprouting for some time, causing destruction in its wake; here we see the overlap of the cycles. Technology’s advances have changed who we are and thoughts about how we can live. After millennia where, ‘it’ was all OK - “manageable…bearable…sufferable”, people have started saying, “No more! We lived that way until now (we’re not sure why) but no more!” This new thinking catalysed the fall of dictatorships and divisions, it has demanded equal rights and answers to corruption. This new thinking is aligned with correcting old inaccuracies and demanding truth.

Have you recognised that there is fear of new thinking and its implications? Have you seen this in yourself? Fear needs to be replaced with understanding — or at least a desire to find out.

Nature with all its force is tornadoing through our lives and shaking them up to ultimately make change mandatory. We are being forced to look at the thinking that created our lives, especially the dysfunctional aspects (and let’s admit it there are many) and answer some questions: “What’s really going on here?”, “Why is it happening?”, “And what am I going to do about it?” What is no longer needed, that which no longer supports our growth, will pass away so that what’s fresh and new can flood in.

No one forgets living through a tornado. They will say, “Life was never the same again”. For humanity, as one leg follows the other under the covers to prepare for a new day, nothing could be closer to the truth.

We have to exchange fear for truth to grease the wheels of this transition, and questioning our fear of change is a good place to start.
